Managing Relationships

The Weight-Loss Skill:  Managing relationships at work, home, and elsewhere to minimize weight-loss saboteurs and maximize weight-loss support.

The Challenge:  We don’t live or lose weight in a bubble. The people around us—loved ones, friends, neighbors, and co-workers—can help or hinder our weight-loss and weight-maintenance efforts. Some people may intentionally or unintentionally try to torpedo our efforts—because they may not like losing their eating or drinking buddies, for example, or because they may feel threatened by the way we are changing.

The Points Plus Solution:  In this meeting, we will explore which of our relationships and social  networks present challenges or roadblocks to our success. We will identify saboteurs and explore how to assert ourselves and gain the support that we need.  We will come to understand that to lose weight successfully, we must learn how to manage problematic relationships and, in some cases, seek out or create new ones.  When we recognize the gaps in our friendship circles and seek help elsewhere, we’re taking a great step toward success (not to mention building self-confidence).
