Play With Your Food

The Weight-Loss Skill: Avoiding boredom with food choices so you’ll stay satisfied and on plan
The Challenge:  It’s easy to fall into food ruts. After all, we know how to track familiar foods—no looking things up, no meals to plan. Plus they’re safe and comfortable. But eating the same foods over and over can get boring—and boring is not sustainable. It can lead to feelings of deprivation, which can make us more vulnerable to temptation and overeating.  What’s more, when we stick to the same foods, we miss out on nutrients our bodies need.

The Points Plus Solution:   In this meeting, we will share strategies for avoiding boredom, including ideas for spicing up menus. We’ll also participate in a food swap during which we’ll pass around labels and packages and discuss our favorite food finds.

Tracking Tricks

The Weight-Loss Skill: Tracking better—more accurately and more consistently—for improved weight-loss results

The Challenge: Though tracking is simple in theory—write down what you eat, along with the portion sizes and PointsPlus™ values—it’s not always simple in practice. It can be hard to be consistent, and questions and misconceptions can make it all the more difficult. Even longtime members who’ve mastered basic tracking may discover that there are advanced tracking techniques that could help them...if only they knew about them and how to use them.

The Points Plus Solution: In today’s meeting, we will learn ways to track better—more consistently and more accurately. We will share the obstacles preventing us from tracking consistently as well as the tried-and-true strategies we’ve discovered for making tracking work in our lives. Members who are ready to advance beyond the basics will get to explore opportunities for advanced tracking (including recording such things as hunger levels and emotions as well as food intake and activity, and using the Simply Filling technique).

Me First!

The Weight-Loss Skill: Prioritizing your weight-loss efforts

The Challenge: We often get so wrapped up in the to-dos of life—work, kids, parents, friends, bills, laundry—that we forget we have our own needs. Sometimes it’s been so long since we prioritized our needs that we don’t even know how to fit in the things that are necessary for successful weight loss. But not carving out time to plan, shop for food, fit in activity, and attend weekly meetings interferes with weight-loss success on many levels.

The Points Plus Solution: In this meeting, we will learn why we can—and must—prioritize our own needs. We will explore the specific steps we can take to make time for our own needs, including participating in the Walk-It Challenge.

Go For The Goal!!

Join me every Saturday during the Walk-It Challenge at 9:30 am at the Burlingame High School Track!  Walk or run as much or as little as you'd like!

~Kelly

The Weight-Loss Skill: Goal-setting as a strategy for starting and maintaining exercise

The Challenge: Many of us struggle to start or stick with an exercise routine, often because of misconceptions: It takes tons of time, it requires all kinds of gear, it’s expensive—and then there’s that dreaded gym culture. Some of us say that we’re just not exercise people. Others like being active but just can’t seem to get started.

The Points Plus Solution: This meeting kicks off the Weight Watchers® Walk-It Challenge, which gives us the structure and support we need to begin moving more; for many, that additional activity will contribute to greater weight-loss progress! We will learn that setting a goal is a great way to get started with activity and to stay on track. Challenge participants who sign up online will get an expert training program and regular e-mails with tips and advice. We will be encouraged to join a walking team or create one of our own, since adding friends makes walking more fun—for added staying power!
