Acknowledging and celebrating your weight-loss support network

The Challenge:

Some of us lack a support network—or do not seek to build one. We may view losing weight as a punishment for actions that led us to gain weight; we may isolate ourselves, not seeing or believing the value of a supportive environment; or we may choose to go it alone so that there is no one to disappoint if we fail. Regardless, neglecting the importance of support is like trying to build a house without a foundation—it’s likely to crumble!

In this meeting, we will learn to acknowledge and celebrate the role that our family, friends, and fellow meeting members have played in our success. Identifying and overcoming exercise obstacles so you can move more

The Challenge:

Most of us know about the benefits of activity—how it can help offset PointsPlus™ values from food, boost metabolism, improve mood, create an overall sense of well-being, and prevent certain diseases, among other advantages. Yet there are any number of reasons why we still don’t exercise—and it can be tricky to identify them.

Managing Relationships

The Weight-Loss Skill:  Managing relationships at work, home, and elsewhere to minimize weight-loss saboteurs and maximize weight-loss support.

The Challenge:  We don’t live or lose weight in a bubble. The people around us—loved ones, friends, neighbors, and co-workers—can help or hinder our weight-loss and weight-maintenance efforts. Some people may intentionally or unintentionally try to torpedo our efforts—because they may not like losing their eating or drinking buddies, for example, or because they may feel threatened by the way we are changing.

The Points Plus Solution:  In this meeting, we will explore which of our relationships and social  networks present challenges or roadblocks to our success. We will identify saboteurs and explore how to assert ourselves and gain the support that we need.  We will come to understand that to lose weight successfully, we must learn how to manage problematic relationships and, in some cases, seek out or create new ones.  When we recognize the gaps in our friendship circles and seek help elsewhere, we’re taking a great step toward success (not to mention building self-confidence).
